Welcome to Chasing Malibu

Well hey there! Fancy seeing you here…welcome to our blog, “Chasing Malibu”! Our names are Hannah and Kelsey, and we hope that you’ll be seeing a lot of us around here! I’m Hannah, and I will be handling the majority of the writing around here (I hope you enjoy sarcasm and the occasional curse word), and Kelsey will be handling the majority of the photography and creative behind the scenes work.

First, we want to start off by saying thank you. Whether you are here from Instagram……or stumbled upon us on the TikTok for you page…or are a friend from one of the many stages of our lives…or are one of our fabulously supportive family members…we are so thankful you are here.

Before we get into all of the fun that this blog has in store for you all, I guess this first post should be an introductory, right? If you don’t already know; yes, Kelsey and I are dating. She is my girlfriend and I am her girlfriend. We are gay. *gasp*… I’m sure that came as a huge surprise, huh? Or not.

Our love story began almost exactly a year ago and boy oh boy is it a doozy. It started at the most magical place on Earth, Disney World, with me in a cat costume trying to learn how to play darts…and is currently taking place in our tiny corner of the world in Nashville, TN.

I have Kelsey to thank for making this blog possible, because if it wasn’t for her, I never would have taken this leap. If you would have told me a year and a half ago that I would be pursuing my dream of starting a blog and sharing my passions with the world and would be doing it with the love of my life - yes, I am aware of how cliché this sounds — I would have told you that you were crazy. Actually, I probably would have told you to shut the fuck up and gone back to my bottle of white wine and binge watching Criminal Minds.

And yet, here we are on day 1 of our blog and 2 weeks away from the opening of our shop. Oh, did I mention we are opening an online shop as well? Chasing Malibu is not only a blog, but attached to this blog is our very own shop that we have decided to call “The Attic” — we will be sharing the story behind the name in a later post. The Attic is going to be filled to the brim with thrifted fashion and home decor that Kelsey and I have hand picked for you all and we cannot wait for you to check it out!

Our first drop will be two weeks from now on November 1st, but if you want to see previews of the items before the drop, head on over to @Shop_The_Attic on Instagram — previews for the first drop begin October 25th. On the instagram page, you have the chance to secure an item before it hits the store.

I feel like I’m forgetting something…lets see…our names…gay…the cat costume…the store…oh yeah! The blog name. Why “Chasing Malibu”? Well, I would say “long story short”…but this is pretty much the whole story. We have a dog…her name is Malibu…and we are obsessed with her. She is perfect in every single way; except for the fact that she pees a little when she gets excited to see someone, but you can’t win them all.

I guess the story behind us choosing the name is a little longer than just that. When we were brainstorming blog names, we took to Instagram and asked our followers to send in “hypothetical blog names”. Well, our roommate and best friend Grace took it upon herself to submit about 50 names. These name suggestions ranged from “Malibus Stinky Butt” to “Addicted to White Claws”. But, amongst the multitude of names submitted that were obvious no gos, we saw that she had submitted the name ‘Chasing Malibu”. Now, we knew she jokingly submitted this one because we spend most of our day chasing after Malibu because she chases everything from flies to humans. But, for some reason, we loved it. The name “Chasing Malibu” combined everything we want in our blog. It is something personal to us. It incorporates our love of traveling. And, slightly feels whimsical without sounding cheesy. And thus…Chasing Malibu was born.

I don’t necessarily know where our blog is going to go from here. We have big dreams and big plans and our plan is to take everything one step at a time. We still have to fill in lots of gaps and there is a lot of work to be done on our blog before its “finished”…but I guess blogs never really hit their final form because they are always

changing. But, for now, we would like to invite you to take a look around the site and get familiar with our new little home. And, most importantly, we would like to invite you to become an official member of the Chasing Malibu family by popping your email into the submission box and subscribing! But don’t worry, unlike most families, we won’t ask you about your love life or what your plans are for after graduation…
